Learning Intentions

  • To know what constitutes 'work' for Jewish people during Shabbat
  • To reflect upon their own understanding of 'work'.

Introduction

Inform children that during this lesson, they are not required to do any work. What does 'work' mean to them? Is learning really 'work'?

Revise what was taught in the previous lesson about the Friday night meal. Shabbat is a day of no work.

Main Activity

Use text / images to inform children about how Jewish families 'rest' during the day of Shabbat (www.cist.org.uk/pv/cm/cr2421.htm).

Following discussion, groups of children could:
