Despair - Death

Mark 15:33-41; Matthew 27:45-56; Luke 23:44-49; John 19:28-30

'It is finished'

Three long hours later, the whole country was suddenly covered in darkness for another three hours. Then Jesus cried out, 'My God, my God, why did you abandon me!' Shortly afterwards, he breathed his last. Just at that moment, there was an earthquake and the curtain in the Temple down in the city of Jerusalem was ripped in two....... A Centurion who had been standing by the cross and seen Jesus die said, wonderingly, 'This man really was the Son of God.'

Thinking about it...

'They'll crucify you for that!'. How often do you hear people using this phrase? What do they mean by it?

'My God, why have you forsaken me'. These are the last words that Mark describes Jesus as saying before he died. What do you think the disciples felt at that time?

Why do you think the Centurion said what he did? Why do you think Mark reports these words?
