9 Readings for a Christmas Act of Worship: 6th Reading

About that time the government of Augustus Caesar decreed a census throughout the Roman Empire. This was the first of the present series, and took place when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

Each person went back to register in his home town. Accordingly Joseph travelled from Galilee and the town of Nazareth to Judaea, to the place associated with David which is called Bethlehem, because he belonged to David's family - by direct descent too!

He went to the registration taking Mary his bride-to-be, who was expecting a child.

Her time came while they were actually there, and she gave birth to her first-born son. She put him to bed in a manger, because there was no room for them inside the inn.
