9 Readings for a Christmas Act of Worship: 3rd Reading |

Light shines for dwellers in darkness; day dawns for those under death's shadow. The whole nation swells with pride, and the people's joy mounts as it does at harvest time, or when they share the spoils after victory, or revel in freedom from a downed oppressor. Yet things like these are past, and bettered - away with the battle-worn kit and the blood-stained tunics. Now we see the calibre of the crown prince whom we have watched growing up: now he inherits the throne and gathers into his hands the reins of government. His name? - Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Father for Ever, Prince of Peace. More and more firm shall be his grasp of power; the peace which he makes shall have no end. A real Son of David, he shall reign in truth, goodness and beauty, the just ruler of righteous folk. His dominion will go on and on and on. - Almighty God himself will make it happen.
