Walk 'The Pilgrims' Way' 1 |
As part of the main Pilgrims’ Way pilgrimage, pilgrims from all over the West Country and Wales travelled to Aust on the banks of the River Severn, South Gloucestershire. It is thought that Aust is a shortened version of the name Augustine. It was here that Augustine disagreed with the Welsh bishops and made his prophesy of war. | |
| An ecumenical service of reconciliation was held in
the churchyard of St John's, which was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. 'Agor y ffynhonnau melys' |

| The Archbishop preached that
pilgrimage is like a journey into God, which in a way is a journey into our true
selves. Augustine’s own journey was a pilgrimage itself, like emerging from the
heathen darkness into the light of Christianity. 'To be a pilgrim' Meet some of the modern day pilgrims... |
