Walking 'The Pilgrims' Way'...
The pilgrimage was in several parts: one started in Rome and made its way through famous European religious sites to arrive in Canterbury on 25th May 1997. The feast day of St Augustine was celebrated on 26th May, after which the pilgrims left Canterbury and moved in five different directions to visit many famous pilgrimage sites in the UK on the way to Derry in Northern Ireland. They arrived there on 9th June which is St Columba's feast day. On the way many other people joined in - just for the day, or even the hour! Each day involved travelling - in buses, boats, trains, barges, and of course by foot! Pilgrims' Way 1997 - following in the footsteps of modern day pilgrims.
