Derry

Derry D erry is the city of St Columba and is the place where the modern pilgrims finished their long journey from Rome. Columba founded a monastery there in the 6th century, which was later destroyed by the Danes. A Protestant Cathedral of St Columba was built in the 17th century, and there is also a Roman Catholic Cathedral. Many celebrations marked St Columba's Day in Derry - 9th June - the day the pilgrims arrived, these included services at Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian churches at 10.30, and other activities which took place the evening before. The emphasis was on ecumenical worship - all Christian people together.
