• The child is taken to the Gurdwara.
• Ardas (the requesting prayer) is said and a name is chosen from the first letter of the first hymn when the Guru Granth Sahib is opened at random.
• A girl's name is followed by Kaur (Princess) and a boy's name by Singh (Lion).
