This is Christmas

Art

For two thousand years the birth of Jesus has been an inspiration to people, not only to Christians. Artists have produced wonderful work depicting the event; this has helped many as they think about what happened and its importance for the world and for them.

For some of the artists the Christmas story has been a deeply moving event; for others it is an event they were commissioned (paid) to depict. As you look at these examples it would be very difficult to tell which is which. You might question how much that matters and perhaps have a discussion about it.

Follow some of the links listed in On Line Resources for the Christmas Season [scroll down to find the 'Images' section]. You can look at how different artists have depicted aspects of the Christmas story - The Nativity; The Shepherds; The Magi.
