Activity One: Working out the date

Get a calendar with Easter Day and Ascension Day marked on it. Count the number of days from Easter Day to Ascension Day:

How many days are there?
Can you remember how many days there were between Ash Wednesday and Good Friday?
Count them on a calendar - and remember not to count the Sundays (Lent - Introduction) .

Ascension Day is always 40 days after Easter.

Activity Two - Can you remember learning to ride a bicycle?
Especially for those at KS2

Can you remember learning to ride a bicycle? The moment when you were left to go alone?
Or perhaps you may have a baby brother or sister who has just learnt to walk.

Although you may wobble and feel unsteady at first - there is someone on hand to help until you feel confident and able.

The followers of Jesus were worried about being left but he promised help - by sending the Holy Spirit so that they could live the way Jesus wanted them to.

You might describe how you felt when you learnt to do something important on your own - and how it helped knowing that someone was looking after you.

You might find out what Peter did after Jesus' ascension. Remember how upset he was when Jesus was arrested and put to death. He didn't give up. He showed how following Jesus can change your life.

Activity Three - The ascension of Jesus
Especially for those at KS3

The ascension of Jesus - returning to heaven and 'being at the right hand of God' confirmed his importance and authority (sitting at the right hand of the host is traditionally the place of honour at a table). Although Jesus was no longer physically present with his disciples, there is plenty of evidence to show that his power and authority in their lives remained strong.

You might think about people who have power and authority in your life - for example teachers at school and parents. Although they are not always with you, in what ways are you aware of their influence , even when they're not by your side?

Organisations sometimes use symbols or logos to establish a link between the product and the organisation. Can you think of examples? Some also give guarantees and encourage people to stay faithful to a particular brand.

The symbol or logo for the Christian Church is very well known across the world. What is it and how many versions can you find? How does the Church make strong links between what it does today and what Jesus said 2000 years ago?

What encouragement is there for people to stay faithful?
