Advent is the start of the Christian 'year'. It's a time of preparing and waiting, and a time of excitement, rich in traditions and customs. Advent is the time when Christians prepare for Christmas - the time to celebrate the birth of Jesus and what that means to us all. 'Advent' means 'coming'. It is also when Christians think about the time when Jesus Christ will come again. This is called the 'Parousia'. It will mark the end of the world as we know it and centre around the return of Jesus Christ 'in glory'. This website is in two main sections:- one explores Advent themes, and the other looks at Advent through traditions and the arts. The navigation graphic at the top of each page lets you move around within each section. Go back to the opening Advent page to change from one section to another.
